The news that many young women in a pub in Mangalore were beaten badly by members of the Rama sena is interesting. After the advent of the software industry many young girls who get fat pay packets are swayed to pubs where drugs and hot drinks are served. They take to drinks and indulge in immorality which they call enjoyment which endangers the future generation. These girls who enjoy modern life may not have any interest in marriage and they marry for convenience. If this trend goes on our country will lose the sanctity of marriage.

Completely agree with you gaurav. These kind of religious organizations should be labeled as terrorists. These are, no doubt, the terrorists within the country.

I agree Sanwali. They are the terrorist that we need to get rid of before any outsiders. But you know what, these men will never come out of their double standards and have one straight opinion.
They are actaully afraid that women are proving to be more efficient than the men. This way they are afraid of loosing their worth.

Interestingly, no body is bothered about increasing number of pubs etc. No hue and cry is being raised over their presence .In Allahabad there were lesser number of ”Thanda beer” shops. Now you can locate them at every nook and corner of the city .But no one is bothered. You can find young guys/girls smoking and drinking beer together. This is the pix of ”Shining India”. This is the image of ”young and vibrant India”. Hats off to such glorious developments. Please don’t say anything to these youths-representatives of modern India. They are bubbling with confidence. Dare not say anything to women of modern India. They have awakened. If Draupadi can have five husbands why prevent the modern women of our times to have 50 boyfriends before marriage and illegal relationships after marriage.
The writing on the wall is clear: Enjoy the life to its fullest. Care a damn for principles etc. They were meant for stone-age people!! Hurl shoes on them who talk about values etc.
And yes, don’t build temples. Build brothels. Times have changed.

Why are only women blamed on everything? Is it decided by the god that men can do whatever they want in public with broadened chests but the women has to stay within the limits drawn by the same men. When something is wrong for the women then how come the same thing goes right for men? Yes Arvind you are right, “Dare not say anything to women of modern India. They have awakened”. And I’ll add “weather people like you, like it or not”. We will live the way we want to and the way men want us to.

The harsh truth is that women are more mentally corrupt than men. Earlier, there were lesser chances to enter in corrupt chances. Don’t worry. Right age has arrived. God has heard your prayers that there should be no limitations for women too. She can also now sleep with 10 people and still hail herself to be icon of virtuousness .Don’t be restless. Bhai Log everywhere are trying their level best to place the absurdities of women in proper perspective. New words are being coined to honour the vulgarities of modern women!!
Fine. Define your limits all by yourself .I am of the opinion just kill the word limitations forever (saying just for a progressive woman’s sake...ha..ha)
It’s the perfect age for them to be representative of choicest absurdities masquerading as choicest virtues.
Bottom-line: Let women be on top with borrowed ideals.

Hi Aravind...I was just waiting for your reaction in this issue...
On the contrary to what you have said, Indians always have considered enjoyment of life as something immoral. So called ”traditions” are made so that people can be restricted in their personal life. We are only supposed to study, work, eat, sleep & die off. Anybody who wants to have a good time is a pathetic western copycat.
Who decides the rules?...those who made these centuries ago were also human beings...and can be as wrong as we are...
what is the logic behind self torture in the name of ”culture”?...why can’t people simply sit back, relax and live their life?...is it necessary to make things complicated?

What happened Jitaditya? You love to argue with well-chiseled statements.Rise above petty generalization.
Just go through Indian philosophical literature and you will find that points raised in your comment are devoid of substance.

Do you remember this line from a title song ?.....Kuch Log Jo Jyada Jante Hai Insaan Ko Kum Pehchanate Hai...Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai....

You think you might have learnt a lot by studying philosophical literature...
you lost your normal logical ability...you think your points are ”well-chiseled statements” and others are ”petty generalization”....
1. you are the one who is generalizing...India is the baap of morality...entire west is decadent...and so is anyone who doesn’t agree with your ultra conservative views...
this is what is called ”petty generalization”...
2. I don’t expect you to agree...but keep in mind that whatever you say...the kind of talibanistic society you are envisioning is never going to materialize...
3. Your ”well-chiseled statements” are full of contradictions...you think you live a ”simple” life...but anyone would tell you that it is not only complicated for you but also for people around you...

After calling the girls prostitutes, that SRS fool claimed in an interview that ”they are like my sisters”...very glorious, philosophical & cultured isn’t it?

..............Jitadiya.First track your own normal logical ability .You sound childish the way you have reacted. First rise above personal and negative comments. Don’t exhibit your immaturity.
Your insinuations are merely indicative of fact that you are unleashing your frustration instead of being at par with issue at hand.
I once again reiterate that what you have stated in your original message is false and inaccurate .Since you have not bothered to read that doesn’t mean other should also bark like mad dog. I have merely stated a truth known to even a very casual reader of Indian Philosophy. If you are not aware of even simple philosophical assertions I think you must get above your ”ignorance” instead of forcing others to honour your vague and bogus assertions.
If you are interested in healthy and constructive debate, please first read. And if you are more interested in stupid insinuations -”ultra conservative views” ;”the kind of talibanistic society you are envisioning is never going to materialize”; ”you are a superior human being (an Indian) and hence can’t be questioned ”-you can enter in such debate with choicest fools present everywhere. There are many on IB and elsewhere. You will be more happy in their company.
I am least interested in wasting words and time in refuting your falsehood and petty generalization.
”You scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours”. That never has been my philosophy.

I have realized what was there to realize! Probably, you have not read my comment in proper light.I have already stated that act of Ram Sena brigade needs to be condemned in most strongest words. Regarding ”political implications” and ”gender issues” ,I have already said many things on them. No need to repeat them once again when all you are interested in endorsing your bogus mindset in league with petty generalization.

I respect Western achievements but that doesn’t mean I should start undermining strength of Indian ideals or for that matter start feeling ashamed of following the patterns carved by our ancestors. Such bonds with old order of things might appear to you a “time-warp” and “living in a well” but that’s much better than being swayed by wild mannerism of a foreign nation.

Some people have the basic problem, where they want to move ahead towards modernization and at the same time don’t want to leave the old traditions behind. They want to get both, which is not possible. Indian men need to stop dragging their age old customs to be in the race of developed nations. Men and women both comprise a nation and both have to equally contribute in nation’s growth. Men alone can not do it. Period.

I appreciate your opinion Vinit and agree to the point that people want to get advanced and at the same time don’t wanna get out of the old age rituals.
If this is the case then according to the Sri Ram sena and their supporters practices like Sati were fair enough and should be implemented again.
Its very sad to get familiar with this part of India.

I am sorry but this post is a complete one sided view of a typical Indian orthodox man. I don’t agree with the point that girls should not drink because they have to get married and blah blah…Even men who dead drinkers get married and spoil the life of their wife and children, but that does not strike anyone coz they are men. They have right to do what they want.

all those who have suddenly woken up against pubs...should note a few things...
1. do they think no one drank alcohol in India before?...drinking is not an alien culture, it has been there from remote antiquity...
2. many middle aged man buy sheepishly from stingy stalls (& most probably drink at home in front of kids which is worse)...now just because people have a better place to drink and are more visible, they are shivering...
3. Why do these guys like SRS etc don’t go and beat up corrupt official & politicians?...do they have the balls or even the understanding of situation to do it?
4. Have those SRS people ever done anything constructive like opening an school etc?
5. Anyway this issue is entirely sexist...and it shows how despicably backward & rotten we still are...no one would have bothered had females not gone there...the post writer seems to be a sworn misogynist...

After all, it’s cool to be at such places .And such an act will certainly help him to kill all possibilities of being ever trapped in ”time warp”. That will also help him to coin new phrases for ”ultra-conservative” souls like me and in process strengthen the ever-growing community of ultra-moderns!!

No need to get in the discussion of what is good for man or woman rather we can concentrate on what is good for human being . Any thing whether it is drinking or smoking or pub culture when it crosses the limitation it is not acceptable to any one and from here starts the controversy. As a general rule we know that access of everything is bad .

These days the sence of modernity has changed . People have become modern in their outfit and a very peculiar dress combination but it is rare to find the modern out look. Who are these fundamentalist and obscurantist forces in league with politicians, who invariably are corrupt, to engage themselves in moral policing. Can these jawans of the Moral Army tell what model they have put before the youth. As they have failed grandly and gravely to be a role model, let the youth chart their ways and life styles themselves. It is easy to don the role of pontiffs as the pontification is the most easy job. These leaders preach only ” Do as we say not as we do”.

And I’ll add “weather people like you, like it or not”. We will live the way we want to and the way men want us to.

I agree Sanwali. They are the terrorist that we need to get rid of before any outsiders. But you know what, these men will never come out of their double standards and have one straight opinion.
They are actaully afraid that women are proving to be more efficient than the men. This way they are afraid of loosing their worth.

Period.

It is a very sad post...
all those who have suddenly woken up against pubs...should note a few things...
1. do they think no one drank alcohol in India before?...drinking is not an alien culture, it has been there from remote antiquity...
2. many middle aged man buy sheepishly from stingy stalls (& most probably drink at home in front of kids which is worse)...now just because people have a better place to drink and are more visible, they are shivering...

What happened Jitaditya? You love to argue with well-chiseled statements.Rise above petty generalization.
Just go through Indian philosophical literature and you will find that points raised in your comment are devoid of substance.
” why can’t people simply sit back, relax and live their life?...is it necessary to make things complicated? ”
—Nobody is preventing you from doing so.I too hate complexity.Be simple.Think simple. That’s all.

Today even I am having doubts over my own choice...

..............Jitadiya.First track your own normal logical ability .You sound childish the way you have reacted.

Sanwaliji you are correct that Jitaditya has wasted enough of his time and energy since yesterday. Isn’t it time for him to be at some pub etc. with some nice girls and listen sound tracks like”Jara-2 Touch Touch me ..Jara-2 Hold Hold Me ..Jara Jara Kiss Kiss Me” ? After all, it’s cool to be at such places .And such an act will certainly help him to kill all possibilities of being ever trapped in ”time warp”. That will also help him to coin new phrases for ”ultra-conservative” souls like me and in process strengthen the ever-growing community of ultra-moderns!!

No need to get in the discussion of what is good for man or woman rather we can concentrate on what is good for human being . Any thing whether it is drinking or smoking or pub culture when it crosses the limitation it is not acceptable to any one and from here starts the controversy. As a general rule we know that access of everything is bad .

i do appreciate your concern and out look about the concept of modernity . we, as a parent are really surprised to see that were modern generation is heading towards .
Undoutedly todays’ generation is more sharp, more confident but at the same time more irresponsible not towards their work or life but towards their elders and specially those who raise a disagreement with their behavior. These days the sence of modernity has changed . People have become modern in their outfit and a very peculiar dress combination but it is rare to find the modern out look. It will be a welcome change if people turn to modern outlook and modern thoughts .

No group should have the right to ”police” others. If someone wants to indulge in immorality it is up to them and their God. I personally don’t drink, but I have no right to judge others who do. Judge not lest ye be judged.
