Random thoughts on Indian elections

Once in every five years the people of India enjoy an all India festival and that is the elections. These elections have become a thamasha or us because we know our candidates and we also know that they will not do any thing for us. The people of India are a highly polarized group, the educated minority do not vote, and the uneducated majority vote not for good governance but for freebies like free tv sets and whatever the government gives them free of cost.

Nobody is bothered about good governance and making India a stronger nation militarily and economically. Even the senior most politicians follow a follow a policy of blaming others. They believe in postponing problems eternally because they know that the public tend to forget the problem, and when the problem becomes serious they blame it on a foreign hand that is bend on destabilizing India.

America elected Obama as they believe in change, but here we do not believe in any thing. We want some one to occupy the seat. Youngsters are willing to occupy the seat as they are highly selfish and self centered and so seat automatically goes to grand old men like the present P.M and his ilk. These people cling to their seats at any cost and cloak their cowardice with sagacity. The great Indian thamasa is about to begin.

Yes elections are great tamsha in India but we can not deny the importance of elections in Indain democracy.
We can not allow dictatorship here.

Rather than complaining about the whole electoral process we should indulge in politics and try to renovate the system.

Renovating the system!!!well this guy seems to live in the fools errand, preaching like a priest...LOLzzzzz!!!! don't forget dear politics is marsh the more you step in more you get entangled and more you become the sane as the others are...even if you are intended to bring the reforms you won't be allowed to, in a similar way as a big fish lives on the smaller ones.

Politics is like a mud swamp and these guys are like pigs in the mud. If you wanna fight them you've got to enter the swamp. For you it looks strange, after a while you will understand they're actually enjoying it.

You have to live there (Africa) for a while to understand how it works..........they are simply following the ideals set for them by their colonial tutors

Election time is a time when corruption is at its peak level. Big industrialist fund politicians to meet high cost of election and ultimately and procedures alienate common people to ask for any help from government

It seems some guys live in a fools paradise when they say that change cannot happen with politicians. If a politician wants to change the system he can.Two out standing politicians that come to my mind are Ms Jayalalitha of Tamilnadu and Mr. Narendra Modi of Gujarat.Modi has a lot of weakness, still he was able to make Gujarat a top industralized state. He did a commendable job in housing Nano in his state,.

Yes, you are right.

Modi did a commendable job in orchestrating the communal riots in 2002.

Jayalalitha is also an outstanding leader as there is no allegation of corruption against Jayalalitha?
I am optimistic for change but I don’t want a Modi style communal change.

What prevents the Gujaratis to avoid ”Modi style communal change”? Why are they interested in it?

It’s the hatred in the their minds developed by Hindu fundamentalists that prevent Gujratis to avoid the Modi style communal change. Why do people follow caste system? It is impression in their minds about superiority or inferiority of a particular caste. Do you worship daily? Why? It’s your belief that compels you to worship. Same is the case with Gujrati people. If you tell a lie hundred times it seems as a truth. Modi is doing the same thing to develop hatred in minds of Gujrati people.

It is the democracy that has kept India going when lots of nations have gone under and ungovernable. Politicians are prepared to do their bit, given the chance. A classic example of this is Lalu Yadhav. Who would have expected him to do such a sterling job as a rail minister?
Corruption exists everywhere- USA (LEhman Brothers, the Bank Financial collapse, the scandals if Bill Clinton to name a few) as in UK or Spain or Italy where the mafia have almost destroyed the system. Despite all this, India has flourished withthe democracy, unlike Pakistan or Burma or so many others.

I agree with your views.Look at the state of affairs in other nations.India is one of the most successful democratic nations in Asia.Just see what’s happening in Pakistan.

India is 62, in a ”geriatric disorder”,a medical term to denote aged people with all old age syndromes. India does not lack behind any thing this sort. Even politcians are quite old. Phsically weak, with multiple complaints. Nevertheless, the Nation marches without seeing what
limpid it should have, but with acrimonies and hatred politics. The franchise must be regarded as chase as a virgin. Alas the meaning is less felt.
Let us wait and see.

Of course Jayalalitha and Modi have their weaknesses ie corruption and indulgence in hate politics, but who is not corrupt? It is we who encourage corruption and when the degree of corruption exceeds limits we say some one is corrupt, but when corruption is with in our limits we call it by names like tips incentive etc.Generally people who are corrupt are efficient and you can trust them.Do we not bribe people even though we do not like it?We people do not regard corruption as a crime, but it is just a weakness like craving for food

Mr.Sankara Narayanan,
Please read my comment and reply carefully. I never mentioned single word about Jayalalithaa and Modi.
I spoke in general terms. Don’t immorally politicise issues. We should be careful about our index finger as writers.

Dear Shafee
As writers it’s our duty to expose flaws of system and people responsible for this.
We can’t not turn a blind eye to acts of such people. If we are to discuss the democracy then we always have to discuss about the people indulged as leaders in this. We have to oppose such people firmly.
Surely, Indian democracy has survived and will survive but if we keep on ignoring the role of people like Modi it won’t survive for a longer time.

Dear Shafee
You are right. We should always remain under the umbrella of journalists. We should call a spade a spade. But work of journalist is to tell the people that it’s a spade and we have to be aware of it.
