Random thoughts on terrorism

26/11 has seen the rise of terrorism in India and our response was measured, effective and some what soft. All of us have felt that enough is enough and we must put an end to it. We have burned candles, played cricket, and even removed the ministers.

So far so good. Two weeks are over and the initial enthusiasm and anger are slowly dying down. There was some sign of crack down in Pakistan owing to international pressure and even this pressure may ease after some time.

Everybody knows that Pakistan is going to play dirty tricks against us once the dust settles down. Pakistan will not change because their survival depends upon bleeding India and we will never learn any lessons. If we had learnt any lesson than we could have asked the U.N to declare Pakistan a rogue state and stopped all contacts with it till the terror gurus are handed over to us.

It is good that people like you are still thinking about Mumbai 26/11 even more than half-a month has elapsed. But pl. suggest what to do?

Does it mean that people like you have stopped thinking about terrorism, and that is the curse of India. We suffer from selective amnesia that is we remember only good things and we conveniently forget bad things.Another peculiar nature of us is that we take steps only if something happens to us.For example if some thing happens to a Kashmiri we are not much bothered as we feel that Kashmir is a foreign country. This is not the case with others, say an American,he is bothered when an American dies in any place.America came to India not because of love but because some americans have died in the blast. That kind of unity and bonhomie is lacking in us.We will change only when some thing similar to what happened in Japan happens to us

Well i would like to start a revolution a movement much more then lighting candles or forming human chains, which would and should pile some pressure on the govt. so that they act fast and in turn put some pressure on the International bodies to act fast, as the root cause of this terrorisim has to end and the terrorist will automatically be vanished, what do other’s feel about it?

even though terrorism is condemnable we need it some times to make us feel that we are Indians and remain united. It is just like a human body that needs develop fever to activate the immune system

One should always try to be so healthy as no fever can ever touch him. Similarly, our alertness should be such that no such attack should ever be possible.

Health does not mean absence of diseases,it means whether our body can fight against all disease causing organisms, and when our body fights against diseases naturally fever may come.Similarly these blasts can be taken as pin pricks in our efforts to make India a strong country.Although we profess that we are strong we are not strong enough to declare war against Pakistan with out the consent of the U.S. If we can boldly declare war against any nation that acts inimical to our interests,if negotiation fails, and nothing happens to our economy then we can say that we are strong

To all my Indian Friend,

There are questions that need to be answered before we start airing the flames of war that would lead the two countries only to regression and where hatred would breed further hatred...

Q.1, Did US inform India about a possible terror attack on the exact location and on almost same dates more than a month ago?
Q.2. Was Indian navy very active in the area for almost one month to check the possible terrorists who might enter Mumbai or India using waterways?
Q.3 Is it possible for 10 men to travel on a Rubber Dingy to travel such a long distance and be as fresh as they were and carry on the fight without sleeping for 5-7 days - This includes 3-4 days travel by a dingy and 3 days of engagement in the intense fight?

Q. 4. Why Would Heman Kerkaray would be the first victim of this attack???

I dont think it’s a matter of Security and Intelligence failure... It’s much more than that....

Now let’s look at possible reasons as to why this would happen - essentially one more conspiracy theory in addition to the one fed to Indian Media and Indian people.

It’s not hidden fact that India, as any other nation, has Agenda and designs in Afghanistan. Otherwise there would not be Scores of Indian Consulates and Rep. Offices in numerous cities bordering Pakistan.

Many of the Terror outfits operating in Northern Pakistan are being covertly financed by the troika of CIA, Afghan and Indian Agencies. ISI was perplexed as to where these terrorists were getting all the Arms and ammunition especially Night Vision Goggles etc. It was uncovered by ISI during Musharaf’s last days that Pakistan’s ”Allies” on War on Terror were actually feeding to these very terrorists that they wanted Pakistan to fight against. When ISI and Pak Army confronted them, they turned against ISI and after the puppet government of Zardari and Co. took charge of the helm of affairs, first move was to bring ISI under the cover of so called ”Civilian Government”. Naturally Pakistan Army thwarted this attempt and that further hurt the conspirators.

Indian Government would willingly play along with US to stage such a drama as they were part of the interest group (and I am including Zardari & Co. in the group), to rein in ISI.

ISI by no means are group of Boy Scouts. However, like any other intelligence agency, they do things that might hurt other countries’ interest including India. Similarly RAW is also engaged in activities that hurt Pakistan’s interests. These things are unfortunate but we can only lament on such things as ordinary citizens.

On a different note, living in Dubai and having almost every 2nd. friend who is an Indian, I strongly believe that I am a proud Indian by Culture & Civilization with Pakistani nationality. People of both the countries are part of the same creative SAP running through the generations. There is nothing called Pakistani Culture or Pakistani Civilization.

However, we should not live in the past and take as the given facts what happened in 1947. We had no role in those events and consequently we should not carry that burden on our and our posterity’s shoulders. We should focus on the journey ahead of us where we should strive to make our region one of the strongest in terms of Culture and Civilization and economic progress. Mumbai incidents are speed breakers and I am equally distressed on such incidents where innocent lives are lost.

Best regards,

Abdul Ghafoor

This world is full of people who may not like you and your actions, at the same time like you and wants to help you.

Thus we must learn to live in harmony in all situations to make our life worth the purpose for which we have been given birth as human being.

It is a matter for gratification for saner elements in the countries of the Indian sub-continent that there is a group, though tiny it may be, that talks rationally and think in terms of peace. But to cap such saner voices by wayward conjuctures make the purpose of the sane post defeated. No one can disagree that intellignce agencies, irrespective of their hues and colours, are engaged in the dirty ’great game’. May I suggest to read a book ” The great Game” by Peter Hopestrick. ISI and Raw are the other sides of the same coin.

Dr. Ratan and Mr. Anil,

Thanks for responding positively to my post. Anil, thanks for the recommendation. I would definitely read it.

I personally believe that Internet and such blogs are great fora to build bridges between our two people and let’s use this forum to air conciliatory tones and I am sure this saner tiny group, though wayward at times :) would become a change element in the long run.

while i am in agreement with the sentiments
my views on the facts are the 10 men did not travel on a dinghee but a ship+dhao & had opportunity for sleeping
whether there were only 10 men & when they actually arrived is a matter of speculation
while raw may have a hand in afganistan
india has never threatened pakistan with nuclear weapons
in every war we have returned the territory captured may be under us \russian pressure
we never staged kargil or flooded pakistan with fake currency or hijaked pak planes or sent commandoes like in bombay to kill innocent civilians
i may be biased but do not feel that such hostile acts against the backdrop of nukes can ever promote peace
i do appreciate your soothing words which sound genuine
wish there are more of people like you on both sides of the border
i am not angry but am disaapointed for unnecessary violence instead of tackling poverty the basic issue on both sides & am not in favor of war which in any way india cannot wage so long nuke threat persists ,threats notwithstanding
amen
